DIRTEA Summery Iced Mango Matcha Latte Recipe

DIRTEA Summery Iced Mango Matcha Latte Recipe

When Summer Crashes Into Your Matcha Routine

There's something borderline rebellious about putting mango in matcha. Like wearing flip-flops to a formal tea ceremony. But sometimes the best ideas come from ignoring what you're supposed to do.

This iced mango matcha latte turns out to be one of those happy accidents that makes perfect sense once you taste it. The creamy tropical sweetness of ripe mango tames matcha's assertive earthiness, creating these gorgeous sunset layers that make you forget you're drinking something good for you.

We've collaborated with Nourishing Army to create this recipe using DIRTEA Matcha Super Blend, which includes Lion's Mane mushroom and Tremella mushroom alongside what tastes like a tropical holiday.

Here’s how to make it:

Ingredients

For the Mango Base:

  • 1 large ripe mango (about 200g once cubed)
  • 120ml coconut milk
  • ½ teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Matcha:

  • 4 tablespoons DIRTEA Matcha Super Blend (24g total)
  • 180ml cold water
  • 1 litre coconut milk
  • Ice cubes

Method

Sort the mango

Cube your mango flesh and weigh out about 200g. Blend with coconut milk and vanilla until smooth. This keeps in the fridge for up to a week, assuming you don't eat it all with a spoon first.

  • Deal with the matcha

Add matcha powder to a bowl with half the water. Whisk to a smooth paste, then gradually add the rest of the water. Keep whisking until it's completely smooth - lumpy matcha is nobody's friend.

  • Build the magic

Divide mango puree between four glasses. Fill about three-quarters with ice - don't be stingy here.

  • Create the layers

Pour coconut milk slowly over the ice, then gently pour the matcha mixture on top. If you're feeling fancy, pour it over the back of a spoon for better layers.

  • Drink it quickly

Serve immediately while the layers are still distinct. Or give it a stir if you're not bothered about Instagram-worthy presentation.

Why This Works

Mango brings vitamin C, beta-carotene, and natural enzymes that help with digestion. The real magic happens when you combine that with matcha's L-theanine and the functional mushrooms in DIRTEA's blend.

Lion's Mane Benefits

Lion's Mane is brilliant for cognitive function, containing compounds that help with nerve growth and memory formation. It's the kind of ingredient that supports your brain in ways you notice over time. Sharper focus during long work sessions, better recall when you're trying to remember names or where you left things, and that mental clarity that makes tackling complex projects feel more manageable.

Tremella for Skin Health

Tremella mushroom can hold up to 500 times its weight in water, making it incredible for cellular hydration. It helps your skin retain moisture from within, which becomes particularly valuable during summer months when air conditioning, sun exposure, and increased sweating can leave your skin feeling parched.

The L-Theanine Factor

Here's where matcha gets interesting. The L-theanine creates what experts call "calm alertness". Unlike the jittery energy spike you get from coffee, L-theanine works with matcha's natural caffeine to create sustained, focused energy that doesn't crash. Combined with mango's natural sugars, you get immediate satisfaction plus the kind of mental clarity that helps you power through your to-do list without feeling wired or anxious.

Ways to Mix It Up

Protein Paradise

Blend 30g vanilla protein powder into the mango base for a post-workout drink that doesn't taste like punishment.

Coconut Overload

Use coconut milk throughout and add toasted coconut flakes to the mango base for maximum tropical vibes.

Spice Route

Add a pinch of cardamom and ginger to the mango mixture for something more complex and warming.

Green Goddess

Throw a handful of spinach into the mango blend - you won't taste it, but your nutrient intake will thank you.

FAQs

Is matcha better than coffee for energy?

Yes, matcha provides sustained energy without crashes because L-theanine works with caffeine to create calm alertness rather than jittery stimulation.

What are the benefits of drinking matcha daily?

Daily matcha consumption supports cognitive function, provides antioxidants, helps with stress reduction, and may boost metabolism. The functional mushrooms add extra brain and skin benefits.

Does matcha help with weight loss?

Studies suggest matcha's catechins and caffeine may increase metabolism and fat burning, especially when combined with exercise, though it's not a magic solution.

Can you taste the mushrooms in functional matcha?

Not at all. DIRTEA's blend tastes like high-quality ceremonial matcha with no detectable mushroom flavour. The mango adds tropical sweetness that makes it even more enjoyable.

How ripe should the mango be?

Very ripe - it should give slightly when pressed and smell sweet at the stem end. Riper mangoes are sweeter and blend more smoothly.

Can you make this without coconut milk?

Yes, any plant milk works, though coconut milk creates better layers and adds to the tropical flavour profile.
